The End of an Era

A Personal Refuge

I've always wanted to document my own family but for so many years school and work kept me photographing near home. I finally got to Michigan recently and photographed my grandparents and their home. They've been married for 54 years and have lived in their home since October 1956. After I got home I found a letter my grandmother put in my luggage.

In the note she said,
"As a young bride it was a goal - raise the kids, pay the mortgage, have a stable environment for the family. Now in the twilight of my life it has become a refuge - to shut out the fast changing world. A place that always stays the same."

DC Yoga Week




When I found out a massive yoga event was being held on the National Mall, near the Washington Monument, I was so excited. I knew it would make for some really visual opportunities. It was not only relaxing to shoot but really fun meeting so many people. The event included demonstrations of yoga, hula hooping, interactive acro-yoga and budokon.

Immigration Protest



People gathered in Lafayette Square, near the White House, on May 1st in protest of Arizona Law SB 1070. The protesters also pushed for immigration reform.
